[BELOW IS A VIEW FROM A YOUNG INTELLIGENT LADY ABOUT THE PRACTICAL SIDE OF BOTH TRUTH & FREDDOM.]
Truth and Freedom by Jaclyn Gilbride
Truth and Freedom are two words that are heard throughout our country daily. If you've ever been to court, then you are probably familiar with the phrase, "Do you swear to tell the thruth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?"
Now, I agree that "honesty is the best policy", especially in legal matters, but why are we made to take an oath to tell the truth, "the whole truth", when our government can tell us "half-truths"?
Like, in our newspapers. Use this example:
USA and Russia are in a competition and Russia wins the competition. Our newspapers will read:
"USA finishes second".
They don't bother to tell you that it was a 2 country competition, so actually we finished LAST. So, what the newspaper should read is:
"US finishes second in two country competition."
The government's job is to make America look good, even if it means lying to their fellow countrymen in order to do so.
Freedom is a word that sounds nice. We have freedoms, limited freedoms, but freedom nonetheless. We can call it "FREEDOM", because we allow what other countries don't, such as: "Freedom of Speach".
Do you know what that means? Take a minute to think about it. We are allowed to say whatever we want, right? Yep, as long as it doesn't offend any of our big shots. The average citizen can say anything they want to each other. The average citizen talking to a government employee can say anything they want as long as it doesn't go against our country in any way, shape or form. Then, our "Freedom of Speach" is no more.
So, do we really know what's going on in our own country or are we being left in the dark? Is it "truth and freedom" or "truth vs. freedom"?
In defense of our country, we are not told the "whole truth" because, "we can't handle the truth". With the way the world is and the number of mentally sick people living in it, the truth is better left in the hands of those who know how to handle it.
Freedoms must have limitations. If we had 100% freedom then people would be suing the gov't left and right for every little thing that happened to them, because there would be no more laws restricting anything. Therefore, there would be a lot more crime.
Take what you have and be happy you have it because, there are many other countries whose citizens would love to have HALF of what we have, "truth and Freedom" (just enough of both), which makes us the most united country in this world, and that's the truth.
